KARACHI: Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to deepen cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital governance and data innovation as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral technology partnerships, Pakistan’s IT ministry said on Tuesday.
The development comes on the sidelines of the five-day GITEX Global 2025 exhibition, running from Oct. 13 to 17 and featuring more than 6,500 companies from over 180 countries. The exhibition has brought together nearly 200,000 technology professionals, along with thousands of speakers on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, quantum computing, digital transformation and sustainable technologies.
Pakistan has also set up a National Pavilion showcasing 10 startups and more than 26 technology firms to highlight the country’s expanding digital potential at this year’s event.
The pavilion was launched by IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, who also met Omar Suwaina Al Suwaidi, undersecretary at the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, to discuss deeper collaboration.
“The Minister highlighted Pakistan’s Digital Nation Pakistan Act, National Data Exchange Layer and initiatives promoting a cashless economy, smart governance and AI integration,” the IT ministry said.
“Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in advanced technology, data innovation and cross-border startup investment,” it added.
On the sidelines of GITEX, Khawaja also held talks with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office to explore partnerships in digital investment and innovation projects.
The minister’s engagements come as Pakistan seeks to expand its technology footprint internationally and attract investment in the sector.
The country’s growing participation at GITEX has also helped push its IT exports to the UAE to $380 million, up from $280 million last year, according to Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Tirmizi.
