RIYADH: 海角直播鈥檚 capital market continues to experience robust growth, driven by Vision 2030 and a flourishing economic landscape, according to a top official.

Speaking with Arab News on the sidelines of the Capital Market Forum in Riyadh, CEO of EFG Hermes 海角直播 Saud Al-Tassan highlighted the unique strength of the local market.

The top official highlighted that the Saudi stock market has become a 鈥渉ighly attractive venue鈥 for leading private companies to list their initial public offerings.

鈥淚 think the Saudi market is growing at a very interesting rate, driven mainly by the economy and all the changes, the Vision 2030. We鈥檙e going through a transformational period right now for the Kingdom,鈥 Al-Tassan said.

鈥淥ne of the unique things in the Saudi market is that it has very strong local demand and this is very unique compared to a lot of regional markets. Although there is strong demand coming from international names, the local demand still takes up the bigger chunk,鈥 he added.

EFG Hermes expanding offerings, eyes market leadership

While Al-Tassan did not disclose specific upcoming announcements, he confirmed that EFG Hermes is actively working on multiple initiatives.聽鈥淲e are continuously innovating and trying to offer the best services to our clients, and we are always thinking of different ways to add value, and hopefully, there will be some interesting announcements soon,鈥 he said.

Regarding securities lending, Al-Tassan acknowledged that while it contributes a small percentage to EFG Hermes鈥 revenue in the Kingdom, the firm sees it as a strategic priority.聽

鈥淚t鈥檚 part of evolving and offering our clients full-fledged services. We鈥檙e hoping that will increase in the coming years,鈥 he said.

IPO market witnessing unprecedented growth

海角直播鈥檚 initial public offering market is experiencing a rapid expansion, with a growing number聽of offerings under review by the Capital Market Authority. EFG Hermes has played a key role in the market, closing several IPOs last year and maintaining an even larger pipeline for 2025.

鈥淚POs are going through a very interesting period right now in Saudi. The pipeline with the CMA is growing quite rapidly, and we have a very large pipeline this year that we鈥檙e eager to bring to the market,鈥 Al-Tassan said.

He reaffirmed EFG Hermes鈥 position as a market leader in equity capital markets across the Middle East. 鈥淟ast year, we were very active, and it was a very successful year for EFG in terms of IPO advisory. This year, we have an even larger pipeline, and we鈥檙e optimistic it will be an even better year.鈥

Al-Tassan added: 鈥淲e have a number of very sizable and highly sought-after IPOs we鈥檙e working on. There has been significant growth from last year, both on the ECM and M&A front.鈥

Regulator鈥檚 role and foreign investment surge

According to the top official, regulatory reforms and government-backed initiatives have been instrumental in elevating the Saudi landscape.聽

鈥淭he regulator has played an instrumental role in bringing the market to where it is today. We anticipate a lot of foreign participation this year, driven by expected IPOs and government-related company listings,鈥 he noted.

Debt market and future growth prospects

While the debt market is not currently a significant revenue driver for EFG Hermes, Al-Tassan highlighted its strategic importance. 鈥淲e expect it to be a significant part of our business in Saudi in the coming years.鈥

Looking ahead, Al-Tassan remains optimistic about the Kingdom鈥檚 capital market expansion, citing Vision 2030 as a key driver.聽

鈥淎s long as IPOs feature quality names, there will be strong demand. We do not expect any slowdown, and our strong pipeline reflects this ongoing investor interest,鈥 he added.

RIYADH: Papers are absent, and Saudi technology is present to say 鈥渁 paperless event鈥 at the UN General Assembly meetings for the tourism sector, which will be held in Riyadh, with the participation of more than 100 ministers from around the world, Al-Eqtisadiah reports.

The assembly meetings are set amidst natural green plants cultivated in the Saudi desert, surrounding the roundtable that will bring the ministers together. They will chart their plan and vision for the next 50 years, discuss the use of artificial intelligence in the global tourism sector, and ensure the human element is not marginalized.

Sara Al-Saud, the general supervisor of International Affairs for the Saudi Ministry of Tourism, said that 鈥渢here is a shortage of an estimated 43 million workers in the global tourism sector.鈥

She clarified that the topic of AI will be one of the subjects discussed by the over 100 ministers, in addition to shaping the Assembly鈥檚 vision for the next 50 years.

She added that the Assembly meetings are expected to witness the signing of memorandums of understanding and agreements during the event, alongside a number of recommendations that will be announced in due course.

For his part, Ahmed Al-Ghamdi, the director-general of International Research and Planning, emphasized that the human element is very important in the tourism sector, and that artificial intelligence significantly helps small and medium enterprises improve their service quality and customer experience.

The Executive Director of UN Tourism, Natalia Bayona, explained that the global tourism sector is the largest employer of youth, with 60 percent of them working with AI. She added that many tourists worldwide use AI to explore tourist destinations.

Consequently, a survey was conducted with member states to ascertain if they have local AI strategies and to identify what support could be offered to develop the mechanism, especially since the tourism sector relies heavily on small and medium enterprises.

Globally, the tourism sector contributed 10 percent to the global gross domestic product in 2024, equivalent to $10.9 trillion, recording a growth rate of 8.5 percent compared to 2023, thereby surpassing pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels.

On the local front for the Saudi tourism sector, unprecedented levels were recorded in terms of visitor numbers, spending volume, job creation, and contribution to the GDP.

The direct and indirect contribution of the tourism sector to the GDP reached 11.5 percent in 2023. The International Monetary Fund predicts that the Saudi tourism sector will achieve a growth rate of 16 percent by 2034.
