More and more people understand that sustainable practices are essential and young people are vital to solving environmental problems. Indeed, youthful voices are trending across the world, demanding improvements in sustainability.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals are crucial to tackling the climatic issues facing 海角直播, like scarcity of water and desertification. For the Kingdom, the goals are especially important because the country is aiming to diversify its economy and provide a sustainable future for its citizens.

Young people are more likely to support campaigns for the conservation of the environment than older generations, who are more concerned with the country鈥檚 economic development. The younger generation is also more environmentally conscious and more likely to play a role in designing environmentally friendly practices.

Small changes like avoiding single-use plastics or reducing water consumption can significantly impact the larger sustainability agenda. Increasing awareness about these issues and the activism of younger generations will be crucial for the Kingdom鈥檚 move towards sustainable development.

Through leadership, the emerging generation of young Saudis can change current policies, develop and lead community-relevant initiatives, and encourage people to adopt sustainability. For example, the Green Horizons initiative has organized tree-planting campaigns and recycling schemes at universities.

Young people are supporting practical measures to prevent pollution, such as promoting the proper disposal of waste, the conservation of clean water and the adoption of environmentally friendly measures. They participate in clean-up programs, promote the use of recycling bins and post pollution information on social networks.

Young Saudis have the opportunity to take an active role in promoting sustainable development that can have a lasting impact on their communities and the environment.

In 海角直播, water is scarce, so activities like highlighting its proper use for irrigation and supporting water reuse projects are particularly important.

It is also possible to learn from other countries about how to engage young people in driving the sustainability agenda. For example, environmental movements led by the Nordic youth have contributed to policy changes, particularly the reduction of carbon emissions. Young Saudis could follow their example to encourage changes in water conservation policies.

Opportunities for Saudi youths to participate in sustainability efforts are numerous. However, they often face societal pressure and a lack of resources to promote their campaigns. To overcome this, young people can partner with NGOs that provide funding and training on environmental projects.

Nonetheless, the Saudi Vision 2030 has bold strategies focusing on innovation and sustainability that lay the groundwork for youth environmentalism. By harnessing such opportunities, young Saudis can enhance sustainability and reduce pollution.

Young Saudis have the opportunity to take an active role in promoting sustainable development that will have a lasting impact on their communities and the environment by taking leadership roles and implementing practical actions to prevent pollution.

It is essential for all young people to make whatever small contribution they can. With each step, it is possible to raise the quality of life in 海角直播 to another level and make it as sustainable as possible for future generations.

The time to act is now.

RIYADH: Five investment contracts worth SR1.5 billion ($400 million) were signed by Al-Ahsa municipality to advance a series of development and service projects across the region.

The agreements, concluded in the presence of Al-Ahsa Gov. Prince Saud bin Talal and Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing Majed Al-Hogail, are intended to enhance municipal services and improve quality of life for residents, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The deals cover the development of the Jabal Abu Hsais tourist resort, the construction of a vehicle appraisal center, and the establishment of a periodic vehicle inspection facility. They also include the redevelopment of the King Abdullah Cultural Center and the creation of a date processing factory in Al-Ahsa.

These projects are part of broader efforts to diversify the local economy and attract investment into the governorate, highlighting the strategic importance of the Al-Ahsa region, which spans approximately 379,000 sq. km 鈥 about 20 percent of 海角直播鈥檚 total land area.

Prince Saud stated that these projects represent a fundamental pillar in the region鈥檚 comprehensive development strategy, aligning with the leadership鈥檚 aspirations to strengthen sustainability in the implementation of strategic plans and to make optimal use of Al-Ahsa鈥檚 cultural and economic resources, according to the SPA report.

In addition to the investment contracts, Al-Ahsa municipality signed three memoranda of understanding to implement 11 projects focused primarily on establishing parks and urban enhancements under the 鈥淏ahja鈥 project and the Saudi Green Initiative.

The National Housing Co. committed to building eight parks in various locations across Al-Ahsa.

Retal Urban Development, represented by the chief operating officer Yousef Al-Hamoudi, agreed to develop two parks in Al-Badriya district of Hofuf, while Abdullah Al-Abdulqader, board member at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, pledged to fund a 2,000-sq.-meter park in Al-Asima neighborhood.

Al-Ahsa Mayor Essam Al-Mulla explained that the agreements form part of the municipality鈥檚 objectives to serve the community, deliver projects and initiatives that advance development, and establish integration between public and private sectors in pursuit of sustainable growth consistent with Saudi Vision 2030, according to the SPA report.

During the signing ceremony, Prince Saud and the minister inaugurated the 鈥淎l-Ahsa: Future and Development鈥 exhibition, which showcased municipal services, infrastructure projects, and quality of life initiatives.

They also handed over residential units to beneficiaries of the developmental housing program in Al-Ahsa.

Building on these initiatives, Al-Ahsa also witnessed a sharp rise in tourism in 2024, with visitor numbers increasing by 500 percent to reach 3.2 million. As a result, total tourist spending exceeded SR3.3 billion, marking a 400 percent increase compared to 2019. These figures highlight the region鈥檚 growing appeal and underscore the impact of continued investment in infrastructure and services.

  • UAE telecom giant expresses interest in ICT expansion as Pakistan pushes for digital growth
  • Meeting comes amid stalled PTCL privatization process over unresolved asset transfer issue

ISLAMABAD: The chief executive of UAE-based telecom firm Etisalat met Pakistan鈥檚 deputy prime minister in Islamabad on Monday and reaffirmed the group鈥檚 long-term investment commitment to the country, Pakistan鈥檚 ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar hosted Etisalat Group CEO Hatem Dowidar and a high-level delegation that included top Pakistani officials from the IT, commerce, and privatization ministries, as well as the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

Dar highlighted Pakistan鈥檚 鈥済rowing digital economy and the government鈥檚 commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment. He invited Etisalat Group to expand its investments in the country鈥檚 ICT and telecom sectors,鈥 a statement from the foreign ministry said.

Dowidar 鈥渁ppreciated the Government of Pakistan鈥檚 consistent support鈥 and expressed interest in contributing to the country鈥檚 digital connectivity and growth goals, the statement added.

Etisalat currently owns a 26 percent stake in Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), a former state-owned enterprise that was partially privatized in 2006. However, the transaction has been mired in disputes, with Etisalat withholding $800 million of the sale price over issues related to the transfer of properties promised as part of the deal.

Pakistan鈥檚 repeated efforts to fully privatize PTCL have faced delays due to the unresolved asset transfer issue and lack of consensus on valuation. The government has said resolving the matter with Etisalat is crucial for moving forward with broader privatization goals, especially under commitments tied to IMF-supported economic reforms.

Strategic AI adoption, climate resilience to add $232bn to Middle East GDP: PwC聽

RIYADH: The Middle East could add $232 billion to its gross domestic product by 2035 if governments and businesses harness artificial intelligence-driven productivity gains while managing the economic impacts of climate change.

In its latest report, professional services firm PwC stated that the region鈥檚 GDP is projected to reach $4.68 trillion by 2035, up from $3.57 trillion currently, in an optimal scenario driven by widespread adoption of AI and decisive environmental action.

Countries in the Middle East, including 海角直播, are heavily concentrating on developing advanced technologies such as AI, as they seek to diversify their economies by reducing their dependence on oil revenues.

According to the Global AI Competitiveness Index released in January, the Kingdom ranked 15th globally in research output in the sector, having produced 29,639 AI-related publications. This ranking places it among the top contributors to global research and highlights its emerging role as a regional technology leader.

Reflecting on his company鈥檚 latest report, Stephen Anderson, chief strategy and technology officer at PwC Middle East, said the upcoming decade will challenge the region鈥檚 鈥渋magination and capabilities鈥 like never before.

He added: 鈥淭o stay ahead, businesses and governments must act with pace, purpose and partnership 鈥 reimagining traditional models to unlock the competitive advantage the region is uniquely positioned to deliver.鈥

As part of its efforts to advance the growth of AI, 海角直播鈥檚 Public Investment Fund, in partnership with Google, launched Project Transcendence in 2024, a groundbreaking $100 billion undertaking.

The initiative is set to bolster the growth of local tech startups, generate employment opportunities, and foster collaborations with global technology firms, positioning the Kingdom at the forefront of regional innovation.

PwC鈥檚 modeling shows that under a business-as-usual scenario, regional real GDP could grow by 41.8 percent by 2035. However, when factoring in climate-related risks 鈥 such as heatwaves, water scarcity, and flooding 鈥 this growth drops by 13.9 percentage points to a net increase of 27.9 percent, placing GDP at $4.57 trillion.

鈥淎t stake is $232 billion 鈥 the gap between the region鈥檚 most optimistic and constrained economic futures. In the most optimistic scenario, widescale AI adoption could add 8.3 percent through productivity gains; this, combined with decisive climate action could lift GDP to $4.68 trillion by 2035,鈥 said PwC.

The professional services firm added that over the next decade industries will reconfigure to meet human needs in new ways, leading to the formation of new domains that cross traditional sector lines.

These shifts will create opportunities for businesses and organizations to reinvent themselves and target new client bases, form cross-sector alliances, and innovate their service and operating models.

鈥淲ith bold climate commitments, access to the world鈥檚 lowest-cost renewable energy and rapidly advancing AI capabilities and infrastructure, the Middle East holds a unique strategic advantage and is well-positioned to lead the next wave of sustainable, tech-enabled economic growth,鈥 said PwC.

Despite being an oil-rich nation, 海角直播 is spearheading climate efforts in the region. The Kingdom鈥檚 Saudi Green Initiative aims to plant 10 billion trees, rehabilitate 40 million hectares of degraded land, and reduce carbon emissions by more than 278 million tonnes per year.

The latest PwC report also highlighted the role of clean energy in powering AI and scaling innovation.

鈥淎 critical factor will be how effectively the region balances the cost and scalability of AI with the availability and affordability of clean energy to power it 鈥 especially as AI adoption accelerates at an unprecedented pace. Striking this balance will be essential to unlocking the region鈥檚 full potential,鈥 said Yahya Anouti, partner at Strategy& and PwC Middle East sustainability platform leader.

PwC also called on governments, business leaders, and academia to take bold, coordinated action to shape the region鈥檚 future.

According to the analysis, governments should redesign institutions to meet evolving human needs by establishing ministries focused on care or mobility and creating dedicated funds to accelerate AI adoption in public services.

Business leaders are being called upon to reinvent their operating models for a more localized, digital, and low-carbon economy, while strengthening supply chain resilience and fostering cross-sector alliances.

Additionally, academia should anchor national progress by developing future-fit talent, advancing applied research in strategic areas, and embedding entrepreneurship across the education system, PwC concluded.

鈥楤ay of Bengal live鈥: Bangladeshi fishermen go viral showing life at sea

In this photo shared by Shahid Sardar on July 7, 2025, his colleague holds up a catch aboard a fishing vessel in Bay of Bengal
  • Fishermen-turned-influencers have hundreds of thousands of followers on social media
  • Content focuses on fishing techniques, daily life on the boats, and marine life

DHAKA: When Shahid Sardar started his Facebook page four years ago, he wanted to share his experience aboard a fishing boat. He did not expect the millions of views he would soon attract as he tapped into a content niche that is rapidly gaining popularity among Bangladeshis: life at sea.

Sardar, 35, lives with his wife and son in the coastal Chittagong district in south-eastern Bangladesh. He started to work as a fisherman in 2013, after leaving a job at a hospital canteen in the capital, Dhaka.

As the chief cook on a vessel with a 50-member crew, Sardar sails across the Bay of Bengal on month-long voyages in search of fish. When his videos documenting deep-sea fishing methods and daily life on the boat began gaining traction, he expanded his content to show various marine species found in Bangladeshi waters 鈥 many of which are not widely known.

鈥淚 think people generally enjoy fish, especially the kinds caught at sea, which are not usually found in local markets,鈥 Sardar told Arab News.

鈥淭he beauty of the deep sea also draws people to my videos. For most viewers, these sights are rare and unfamiliar. They don鈥檛 have this experience themselves.鈥

Posting as BD Fisherman on Facebook, he has more than 360,000 followers. His other account, Fisherman Shahid, has another 240,000.

When two of his videos went viral in December 2023, Facebook approved monetization for his page.

鈥淢y first video that went viral showed a bulk of yellowfin tuna and some shrimp. The fish were just dropped on the deck ... it was the rainy season. People liked that video a lot. Within 24 hours, it got 3 million views,鈥 he said.

鈥淎s I started receiving some money from the videos, I became more motivated to keep uploading and people started liking my videos more and more.鈥

He now earns an average of about $500 a month from his two pages. That is in addition to his salary of $120 per voyage, plus bonuses based on the catch 鈥 about 60 cents per tonne of fish sold in the market.

鈥淚n my locality, everyone knows me as Fisherman Shahid. Wherever I go, people come to me just to know how they can earn through making videos and posting them on social media platforms,鈥 Sardar said. 鈥淩ecently, the friends of my 7th-grader son also visited my home to learn about my video making.鈥

While for fellow fishers, Sardar鈥檚 content has been an inspiration to start their own pages, for some other followers, like Zaved Ahmed, a Bangladeshi migrant worker in 海角直播, watching his videos is a reminder of his own roots.

鈥淚 was born in Cox鈥檚 Bazar, a coastal area of Bangladesh, and fishing was our family鈥檚 profession. Since 2023, I have been living in Jeddah, which is on the coast of the Red Sea. It seems that sea life is something in my blood. That鈥檚 why I love watching Sardar鈥檚 videos,鈥 he said.

鈥淲henever I watch his videos, my mind travels to the sea with the fishing boat, as if I were experiencing it with my own eyes.鈥

But most of those who follow Sardar and other fishermen-influencers have never experienced life at sea.

Watching it on their mobile or laptop screens helps them connect with the sector that each year contributes about 3.5 percent to Bangladesh鈥檚 GDP and is the main source of animal protein in the Bangladeshi diet.

鈥淚 think most people generally love the sea, but they don鈥檛 have the opportunity to witness the mysteries of the deep sea,鈥 said Karimul Maola, a follower of Sardar from Chittagong.

鈥淭hrough Sardar鈥檚 videos, I鈥檝e learned about many seafish that were previously unknown to me. Also, his videos have given me some idea about how a fishing vessel normally operates 鈥 something most people don鈥檛 know about.鈥

There is a similar sentiment among the followers of other Bangladeshi fishermen who have shot to social media fame.

On the page of Ehsanul Haque Shaon, a fisherman who has 172,000 followers on Facebook, one follower says watching his video was 鈥渓ike the Bay of Bengal live in front of my eyes!鈥 while another says in amazement that watching the content made them realize that 鈥渓ife is very interesting.鈥

鈥淗ow we survive on a boat in the Bay of Bengal,鈥 a video on Fishiib, a YouTube channel focusing on showing the life of fishermen in the Bay of Bengal, has received more than 10 million views in six months.

鈥淚 am truly amazed by how these fishermen adapt to life at sea. They face constant challenges like harsh weather and limited resources, yet they find ways to survive and thrive,鈥 one viewer said.

鈥淭heir resilience and ability to work together as a community is truly inspiring. It鈥檚 a glimpse into a way of life that most of us can only imagine.鈥
