海角直播 has globally topped the Government Strategy Index for AI, according to the 2024 Global AI Index.
On May 12, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the establishment of a Saudi AI company called Humain. This announcement came just one day before US President Donald Trump鈥檚 second official visit to 海角直播, a two-day visit that included attendance at the Saudi-US Investment Forum.
The timing of the announcement, visit and forum was intentional. Between 2022 and 2023, during the previous Democratic administration, the US imposed restrictions on the export of AI chips to many countries, including 海角直播 and other Gulf nations, citing concerns about their potential use in military industries. However, the situation has completely changed, especially after President Trump approved the sale of advanced AI chips to the Saudi company Humain during his recent visit.
The forum witnessed the signing of a strategic partnership between 海角直播 and the US, specifically between the Saudi company HUMAIN and the American company Nvidia. The latter is considered the cornerstone of all AI technologies worldwide.
More importantly, the deal will focus on GPU processors such as Nvidia H100 and Nvidia A100, and will secure access to Nvidia鈥檚 more advanced GB300 processors. These processors were used in the development of OpenAI鈥檚 fourth generation of ChatGPT and have never before been acquired by a non-US company. China鈥檚 DeepSeek, despite its relative superiority, was only provided with slower and lower-quality processors from Nvidia, specifically the H800 and A800. This, however, did not prevent China from developing its own AI model, which cost Nvidia a loss of $600 billion in less than a single day.
Machine intelligence has been used by writers and filmmakers, especially in science fiction novels and films, and in future sciences. However, its basic features did not appear until the mid-1950s when the mathematician Alan Turing posed a question about the possibility of machines thinking. He discussed this in a study published in 1950 titled 鈥淐omputing Machinery and Intelligence.鈥 In 1965, an American computer scientist coined the term 鈥渁rtificial intelligence鈥 for the first time. In the same year, the Logic Theorist program was invented as the first AI program, which employed symbolic logic to solve mathematical problems.
In 1966, the German computer scientist Joseph Weizenbaum created the ELIZA program, the first program to allow a conversation between humans and a machine. In 1967, Frank Rosenblatt succeeded in building the Mark I Perceptron, which relied on an electronic neural network designed to teach computers to process data in a manner inspired by the human brain. By the 1980s, this neural network began using backpropagation algorithms to train itself, and it was widely adopted in AI applications, being ingeniously used in ways that were once unimaginable.
A series of AI devices emerged in subsequent years, most notably IBM鈥檚 Deep Blue, which defeated world chess champion Garry Kasparov in 1997. Following this, AI permeated public life, finding use in smart vacuum cleaners, cooking appliances, self-driving cars, and mobile phones equipped with intelligent voice assistants such as Siri and Bixby.
In 2022, the world transitioned to the era of generative AI, with ChatGPT being its first successful model. This technology necessitates ethical guidelines and red lines, as it could potentially be exploited for various deviations, crimes, and even academic cheating.
According to figures from Silicon Valley in the US, the Saudi AI sector is expected to reach a value of about $140 billion in the next five years, creating nearly 20,000 jobs.
Nvidia has achieved its gains by investing in the world鈥檚 largest industries, including electronic gaming, cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence. Starting with a capital of no more than $40,000 in 1993, Nvidia鈥檚 market value reached $3.579 trillion in 2024, representing the highest market capitalization for a company, surpassing the annual GDP of the UK, which is estimated at about $3.3 trillion. Nvidia currently controls 85 percent of the global AI processor market and is now considered one of the three largest global companies, after Apple and Microsoft.
I hope that Saudi Humain will benefit from Nvidia鈥檚 pioneering experience, transferring its knowledge and expertise to 海角直播, thereby contributing to the localization of super-intelligent chip manufacturing and processing, also the qualification of national competencies to work in this vital field. I believe that SDAIA (Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority) and the Ministries of Education and Human Resources have a promising plan in this regard.
