  • Kingdom to remain one of main backers to Syria in path for reconstruction and economic recovery, FM said
  • Several visits to follow in coming days by Saudi businessmen to Syria to discuss investments: Prince Faisal

DAMASCUS:听海角直播鈥檚 Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Saturday that the Kingdom will offer with Qatar joint financial support to state employees in Syria.

His statements came during a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart Asaad Al-Shaibani in Damascus, who welcomed the foreign minister and his delegation on his arrival in the Syrian capital.

鈥淭he Kingdom will provide, with Qatar,听joint financial support to state employees in Syria,鈥 Prince Faisal said.

Syria and听Saudi听Arabia had听previously discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations in the听financial听sectors.

Prince Faisal referred to his country鈥檚 role in helping to lift economic sanctions on Syria, saying that 海角直播 would continue to be one of the main backers to Syria in its path for reconstruction and economic recovery.

He said he was being accompanied with a high-level economic delegation from the Kingdom to 鈥渉old talks (with the Syrian side)听to bolster aspects of cooperation in various fields.鈥

Several visits would then follow in the coming days by Saudi businessmen to Syria to discuss investments in energy, agriculture, infrastructure and other sectors, he said.

The Kingdom and Qatar听reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the stability and development of Syria, highlighting their shared historical and fraternal ties with the Syrian people, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The two countries stressed the importance of improving living conditions and promoting economic and social stability in Syria.

They also expressed a strong desire to work in coordination with the international community and development partners to ensure sustainable, effective support through a comprehensive and unified vision, SPA added.

Later on Saturday, the two foreign ministers toured the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus.

Prince Faisal also met听with interim President Ahmed Al-Sharaa on Saturday during his visit and 鈥渢he high-level economic delegation鈥 held听talks with Syrian officials about ways of cooperating 鈥渢hat contribute to supporting Syria鈥檚 economy and strengthen institution building.鈥

On a visit to Riyadh earlier this month, US President Donald Trump said he would lift US sanctions on Syria, a move that paves the way for economic recovery in the war-torn country.

The European Union also recently lifted economic sanctions on Syria.

In February, Sharaa visited 海角直播 in his first trip abroad as president.

Last month, 海角直播 and Qatar, another key backer of the new authorities, announced they would settle Syria鈥檚 debt to the World Bank totaling roughly $15 million.

Damascus is hoping that the lifting of sanctions, particularly by the United States, will pave the way for support from the international community.

Years of war and sanctions have battered the country鈥檚 economy, infrastructure and industry.

A recent United Nations Development Programme report estimated Syria鈥檚 鈥渓ost GDP鈥 during the 2011-2024 war to be around $800 billion.

Prince Faisal first visited Syria鈥檚 new authorities in January.

  • Ali Al-Herz turned his home into a library of over 37,000 books, offering visitors space where memory, philosophy, culture come alive

DHAHRAN: In the quiet village of Umm Al-Hamam, located in 海角直播鈥檚 Eastern Province, a lifelong passion for books has been transformed into a cultural haven.

Ali Al-Herz, a bibliophile and literary archivist, has turned his home into Jadal Library, a treasure trove of over 37,000 books, more than 100,000 newspapers and magazines, and antiques, some dating back more than a century.

Yet Jadal is not just a library; it is much more than that. It is a museum to explore, a philosophical space to reflect, and a stand against forgetting important cultural stories.

Al-Herz told Arab News: 鈥淪ince I was born I have been surrounded by my mother鈥檚 books. I grew up immersed in this passion to the point where it completely took hold of me; I became a bookworm.鈥

The spark that ignited it all was when Al-Herz encountered the epic 鈥淪irat Antar鈥 at age 13. 鈥淔rom that epic and through it, I began to look into other worlds,鈥 he said.

This curiosity and fascination ultimately led Al-Herz to create one of 海角直播's most unique initiatives.

The name 鈥淛adal鈥 means 鈥渄ebate鈥 or 鈥渄iscussion鈥 in Arabic, reflecting the library鈥檚 curious spirit. For Al-Herz, the goal is not just to preserve texts but also to preserve the idea of questioning and exploring ideas.

Al-Herz said: 鈥淚 chose this name for the library because it is deeply rooted in ancient Greek philosophical history and in our own Arab-Islamic cultural tradition, particularly in our religious heritage.鈥

The philosophical atmosphere fills three main halls 鈥 named after Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle 鈥 which welcome visitors into a curated world of reading and reflection.

Rare manuscripts, ancient texts, newspapers, and antiques have been carefully archived. Each piece is a whisper from the past speaking into the future.

Al-Herz explained: 鈥淓ven my recent focus on buying books has mostly shifted toward rare editions and old prints, to create a harmony between heritage and modernity.鈥

But Jadal is not stuck in nostalgia, as every two weeks Al-Herz holds a literary gathering. The event brings back a tradition that was once important in the intellectual life of Arabs.

It is an environment where writers, scholars, and thinkers gather over Arabic coffee to exchange ideas in a vibrant atmosphere.

And in a time when people seek instant information online, Al-Herz still uses traditional methods. 鈥淭here is an ongoing struggle between two generations,鈥 he observed. 鈥淰ictory will ultimately go to this latter generation once my generation becomes extinct. Paper libraries will then be transformed into museums.鈥

Perhaps he is right; but for now, in the heart of Qatif鈥檚 countryside, Jadal Library lives on, and it is a place where ink, memory, debate, and heritage continue to shape the cultural soul of the Kingdom.
