In Beirut, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam emphasized during his visit to Dar Al-Fatwa and his meeting with the Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Deryan that the government had initiated reforms in Lebanon following last week鈥檚 vote of confidence.

Salam said all efforts would be taken to end Israeli military operations in Lebanon, and that 鈥渃itizens will experience a new level of government performance and services in the coming months.

鈥淥ur primary concern will be the welfare of the Lebanese people, alleviating their burdens, restoring Lebanon to its leading role, and fostering the best relationships with Arab brothers and friendly nations committed to the state of Lebanon, its institutions, and its people.鈥

Salam said the government would prioritize critical issues 鈥渨ith a focus on living conditions, as well as essential matters such as water, electricity, roads, and the economic, social, and financial situation, particularly the depositors鈥 funds.鈥

He emphasized that 鈥渢he government will ensure justice in all cases, appoint the most qualified individuals to fill vacancies, maintain balance, and protect everyone鈥檚 rights.鈥

He pledged to address 鈥渢he plight of detainees who have not been tried for years, some of whom have exceeded their trial periods, particularly the so-called Islamist detainees. Justice must ultimately prevail, with offenders punished and innocents released.鈥

The Interior Ministry stepped up security measures to maintain public order and ensure the safety of citizens after a security meeting chaired by Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar on Monday, emphasizing the importance of coordination between security agencies.

On Sunday night, Burj Al-Barajneh was the site of a shooting incident that led to the death of one person not involved in the altercation.

The mayor of Burj Al-Barajneh, Atef Mansour, said that Mohammed Wissam Al-Itawi was killed by gunfire exchanged between gangs.

Mansour called on the state to work 鈥渢hrough its security apparatus to find an immediate and decisive solution to these dangerous recurrent acts of lawlessness.鈥

Such attacks are claiming the lives of innocent people due to clashes between gangs involved in theft, drugs, and violence, he said.

鈥淪wift action, with an iron fist, is urgently needed鈥 to stop the menace, he added.

鈥淚t is time to end this by effectively deploying the army and internal security forces to protect citizens. This is a demand shared by all, without exception.

鈥淓veryone is calling for the streets to be secured and corrupt criminals to be confronted. The citizens can no longer tolerate this lawlessness and the destruction of property by outlaws.

鈥淐itizens must feel the presence of the state and its ability to protect them from violent armed gangs that have no regard for human life. The state is the only entity capable of providing security and safety to its citizens across Lebanon and shielding them from this harsh reality,鈥 the mayor added.

In recent developments along the southern border, a Lebanese citizen was injured by Israeli gunfire while attempting to inspect his home in the border town of Kfar Kila.

The Israeli military, which remains positioned at five strategic Lebanese hills, has raised a new earthen barrier on the road leading to the town of Odaisseh to prevent residents from reaching their properties.

Additionally, Israeli soldiers carried out an incursion into the border plain of Al-Abbassieh, detaining a farmer who was working on his land and later releasing him.

This comes after Israeli forces opened fire on a group of citizens traveling on the Odaisseh鈥揔far Kila road on Sunday evening.

On Monday morning, an Israeli military drone flew over Mansouri and Byout Al-Saiyad in the Tyre district, playing an audio recording accusing Hezbollah of obstructing the Lebanese Army鈥檚 enforcement of UN Resolution 1701.

RIYADH: The Maritime Safety Awareness Exhibition, which is organized by the General Directorate of Border Guard, is taking place in the Eastern Province to promote safe maritime practices and issue warnings against swimming in unauthorized areas.

Visitors are reminded to check the weather, be cautious during changes of conditions, and ensure vessels are seaworthy before heading out, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

  • Transformative environmental campaign set to combat desertification and enhance quality of life

RIYADH: The Green Qassim Land Initiative has made a significant leap in afforestation, planting a total of 7,521,316 trees across cities, governorates, and villages during its 15th phase.

This effort is part of an integrated plan to enhance vegetation cover, combat desertification, and improve quality of life, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.

Launched in 2016 with support from Qassim Gov. Prince Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud and oversight by Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, the initiative has grown steadily each year.

Salman Al-Swainah, director general of the ministry鈥檚 Qassim branch, called it one of the Kingdom鈥檚 most prominent environmental initiatives due to its tangible results.

The initiative runs in two annual phases 鈥 March and October 鈥 to ensure optimal climatic conditions for tree growth and sustainability, the SPA reported.

Al-Swainah highlighted that the initiative鈥檚 success stems from strong cooperation among government agencies, the private sector, environmental groups, and volunteers, reflecting rising societal awareness of afforestation鈥檚 importance for ecological balance.

Recently, the initiative received regional and international recognition at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development Goals held at the UN headquarters in New York.

This recognition came during a presentation by Saudi Green Building Forum Secretary-General Faisal Al-Fadl at a regional session chaired by the UN Economic and Social Council.

Al-Fadl described the initiative as an integrated national model balancing environmental, economic, and social dimensions, according to the SPA.

He noted it has become a regional role model, planting millions of trees, creating hundreds of green jobs, and driving sustainable urban transformation.

The Green Qassim Land Initiative is a key environmental effort supporting the Kingdom鈥檚 broader strategy to expand vegetation, combat climate change, and achieve sustainability.

It also raises community awareness and promotes environmental volunteering, aligning with the Saudi Green Initiative and Quality of Life programs under Vision 2030.

Additionally, the initiative supports goals related to rural employment, clean water, sustainable cities, and responsible consumption and production.
