ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival, one of the standout events of the 17th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, concluded on Saturday with Kazakhstan Team finishing top of the medal table, Russia’s Gymnasium Team placing second, and FAB Jiu-Jitsu Academy securing third place.

On the third and final day of competition, children from various clubs and academies around the world wrapped up the festival competitions.

The festival, which attracted participation from more than 10,000 athletes from more 130 countries, included awards for the top academies.

Abdullah Abdul-Ali Al-Humaidan, secretary-general of the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, praised the UAEJJF for organising a global event that brings together children and families from around the world in an atmosphere that reflects the values and spirit of the UAE community.

He said: “The goals of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship align with the vision of Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination in empowering individuals and supporting inclusive society. The event also supports the goals of the Year of the Community, which focuses on developing a stronger society and strengthening values of belonging, giving and unity across society.

“Watching children compete with enthusiasm and confidence shows the real meaning of sport. It helps build character, teaches commitment and belonging, and shapes a generation that values determination, teamwork and the desire to succeed.”

Fahad Ali Al-Shamsi, secretary-general of the UAEJJF, said: “The children we saw on the mat today represent the future. Their participation reflects the federation’s goal of empowering the next generation through sport. When you see a four-year-old step forward with confidence, you know we are teaching values that will stay with them for life, such as respect, discipline, patience, perseverance and teamwork.

“This early stage is the starting point for building a generation that understands the balance between mind and body and has the skills to face challenges with confidence and positivity. Jiu-jitsu gives children a wide space to learn and grow, offering a safe environment where they gain life skills as well as competition experience.”

Sarfraz Mukhtar, father of three Australian children taking part in the festival, said: “What makes this championship special is that it’s not just about competition. It gives families a full experience that combines sport, entertainment and learning.

“The fitness district at the arena created a great atmosphere and allowed the children to enjoy a day full of activity and discovery through games and interactive activities that build teamwork and cooperation. For me, seeing my children learn and have fun at the same time is what makes this event unforgettable. The excellent organisation, warm hospitality and cultural diversity make us feel like we are in our second home.”

The Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship was held under the patronage of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.

The competitions were attended by a host of dignitaries, including Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohammed Al-Hashmi, chairman of the UAEJJF, president of the Ju-Jitsu Asian Union and senior vice president of the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation; Mohamed Salem Al-Dhaheri, vice chairman of the UAEJJF.

With the children’s competitions now concluded, attention turns to Sunday’s start of the Abu Dhabi World Youth Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
