RIYADH: Sustainable aviation fuel will be used in 海角直播 for the first time聽after a deal was struck for airplanes using Red Sea International Airport.

An agreement between Red Sea Global, daa International, and Arabian Petroleum Supply Co. will see the airport supplied with a 35 percent SAF blend, cutting direct aircraft emissions by up to 35 percent.聽

The deal marks a significant step in reducing aviation-related carbon emissions in the Kingdom, according to a press release.聽

This aligns with the company鈥檚 goal to power all operations at the Red Sea with renewable energy. It has already installed over solar panels capable of producing 400 megawatts, which is expected to offset up to 600,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent annually.聽

John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global, said that by introducing SAF to the Kingdom, the company is significantly reducing guests鈥 personal carbon footprints from the moment they arrive and even after they depart.聽

鈥淢ore than this, we鈥檙e supporting the wider aviation sector to start making choices that are better for the environment,鈥 he added.聽

SAF is a lower-carbon alternative to traditional jet fuel, designed to reduce greenhouse gas lifecycle emissions. It can be produced from renewable sources, waste-derived materials, or synthesized from clean hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide.聽聽

In accordance with international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization and the International Air Transport Association, SAF must be blended with conventional Jet A1 fuel.聽聽

Aviation fuel significantly impacts sustainability, with the industry contributing about 2.5 percent of global carbon emissions annually.聽聽

SAFs can reduce emissions by up to 80 percent but currently account for less than 0.1 percent of jet fuel used by major US airlines.聽聽

Challenges include high production costs and limited availability, hindering widespread adoption.聽

鈥淚ntroducing sustainable aviation fuel at Red Sea International Airport marks a significant milestone in our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. This groundbreaking initiative not only reduces carbon emissions but also aligns with our broader mission to protect the Red Sea鈥檚 unique and fragile ecosystem,鈥 said Michael White, chief commercial officer at RSI.聽

RSG鈥檚 commitment to sustainability extends beyond aviation fuel. Its subsidiary air operator, Fly Red Sea, will exclusively refuel its seaplane fleet with SAF and lower-carbon aviation fuel.聽聽

Additionally, RSG has committed to planting and restoring 50 million mangroves by 2030 to enhance carbon sequestration and biodiversity in collaboration with the National Center for Vegetation Cover.聽聽

The Red Sea welcomed its first guests in 2023, with five hotels now open. RSI has been receiving regular domestic flights since September 2023, and international flights began in April with a twice-weekly route to Dubai International Airport.聽聽

Upon full completion in 2030, the Red Sea will feature 50 resorts, offering up to 8,000 hotel rooms and over 1,000 residential properties, alongside marinas, golf courses, entertainment venues, and leisure facilities.聽

RIYADH: 海角直播鈥檚 technology and innovation partnership with Canada is set to receive a boost after senior ministers met to explore new avenues of cooperation and strengthen trade ties.

Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih said in a post on X that he met with Canada鈥檚 Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Evan Solomon to discuss ways to strengthen relations between the countries and to build partnerships that contribute to mutual economic growth, particularly in priority investment sectors.

This comes as trade between the two nations continues to expand. In February, 海角直播 exported SR641 million ($170 million) to Canada, marking an 86.6 percent increase from SR344 million in February 2024, according to data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity.

It also follows an agreement in January 2024 for both countries to re-exchange trade delegations to enhance economic relations and boost trade and investment flows.

In a subsequent post on X, Al-Falih stated: 鈥淭he dialogue took place between me and Anita Anand, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of the Saudi ambassador to Canada, Amal Yahya Al-Moallimi.鈥

He added: 鈥淲e discussed supporting and strengthening relations between our two countries, and facilitating investment exchange, in order to achieve more fruitful cooperation in the most important sectors, which will bring success to both peoples.鈥

Artificial intelligence has become a central pillar of 海角直播鈥檚 post-oil economic strategy, with the Kingdom leveraging advanced technologies to drive data-led industries and automation.

Now at the halfway point of Vision 2030, the country is accelerating efforts to position itself as a global technology leader, balancing innovation with sustainability goals.
Key initiatives 鈥 including the Project Transcendence program, valued at around $100 billion 鈥 aim to further establish 海角直播 as a global hub for AI innovation.

Over the past five years, 海角直播 has made significant progress toward establishing itself as a regional artificial-intelligence hub. PwC projects that AI could contribute about $235 billion 鈥 or 12.4 percent 鈥 to the Kingdom鈥檚 gross domestic product by 2030.
