JEDDAH: 海角直播 and Italy have signed an agreement to boost energy cooperation, including a possible supply to Europe of聽green hydrogen made in the Kingdom.

The Saudi Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman met with Italy鈥檚 Minister of Energy and Environment Gilberto Pichetto Fratinon聽on Jan. 14 to sign the memorandum聽of understanding, which covers collaboration in innovation and technology, such as hydrogen project development, climate change mitigation solutions, and the circular carbon economy, including carbon capture, utilization, and storage.

The deal comes as 海角直播 seeks to boost its green power credentials, with a facility at NEOM set to become the world鈥檚 largest utility-scale, commercially-based hydrogen plant powered entirely by renewable energy.

According to Reuters, the Italian minister stated that his country could serve as a gateway into Europe for renewable hydrogen and ammonia produced in 海角直播, highlighting it would be 鈥渕uch closer, more competitive and strategic than other alternatives in the North Sea.鈥

The agreement also highlights the importance of digital transformation, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence in the energy sector while promoting joint initiatives to support engineering and construction projects in alignment with the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

The ministers addressed key topics such as reducing methane emissions, energy storage solutions, and using traditional and transitional fuels, including oil, gas, and petroleum.

The聽discussions also focused on enhancing the stability and reliability of oil and natural gas markets, reducing volatility, and strengthening energy supply security and supply chains, according to a press release from the Saudi Ministry of Energy.

The Saudi ministry鈥檚 release indicated that cooperation would include developing qualitative partnerships on products and services related to all sectors of energy supply chains and their technologies. It added that the cooperation聽will also consider creating and using sustainable, polymeric, and innovative materials in construction and other sectors.

Scheduled for commissioning in 2026, the聽NEOM Green Hydrogen Project will produce 600 tonnes of clean hydrogen daily through electrolysis using thyssenkrupp聽technology, nitrogen through air separation powered by Air Products, and up to 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia annually. Upon completion,聽the facility will offset 5 million metric tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

A collaboration between NEOM, Air Products, and ACWA Power, the joint venture will leverage cutting-edge technologies to integrate approximately 4 gigawatts of renewable energy from onshore solar, wind, and storage.

In July, Saudi Aramco signed agreements to acquire a 50 percent stake in the blue hydrogen industrial gases business of Air Products Qudra, reinforcing the Kingdom鈥檚 commitment to becoming a global leader in hydrogen production.

RIYADH: Business leaders from China and 海角直播 say cooperation between the two countries is entering a new phase, driven by technology transfer, joint innovation and large-scale infrastructure projects.

They were speaking during a panel discussion at ewpartners鈥 鈥淐hina Night鈥 in Riyadh on Wednesday evening, with Arab News is a media partner.

Noor Nugali, Arab News鈥 Deputy Editor-in-Chief, moderated the discussion.

Aces CEO Akram Aburas said that China has become an important reference point for the Kingdom as it undertakes massive development projects.

鈥淚n 海角直播 now, obviously everybody knows that we are going to make larger scale projects in construction, airport facilities, and healthcare facilities,鈥 he said.

鈥淐hina is a very good role model for us, because when it comes to China, any project implemented there is usually implemented on a massive scale and high-tech scale. It means that you have a robust, you have a very strong system installation base.

鈥淚t鈥檚 very good to get some of these technologies and implement them in 海角直播 鈥 the potential success, is extremely high once we use it in Saudi.鈥

Aburas said the perception of Chinese technology has shifted dramatically over the past decade, with China now recognized for its large-scale deployment and technological maturity.

鈥淲e have to admit, and we have to realize the Chinese technology is an age of technology. The perception 10 years ago doesn鈥檛 exist,鈥 he said.

鈥淐hina has massive installations, they have massive deployment and massive investment in terms of technology.鈥

He noted that as a 海角直播 operator responsible for managing large infrastructure projects, such work demands extensive technological integration and large-scale system deployment.

Aburas also discussed how 海角直播 firms are starting to co-develop intellectual property with Chinese partners under government-supported initiatives.

鈥淲e are capitalizing our installation, but also our technical knowledge, with the support of the government to create an IP. And then we approach multiple technology partners, partnered with China, and now we start using for our own but also go (to) the international market.鈥

Hawk Xu, Leshine鈥檚 CEO and CTO of Lenovo Supply Chain, said 海角直播鈥檚 geographic position makes it one of the world鈥檚 most strategic gateways for global trade and logistics.

鈥淚f you look at physical locations, definitely, it鈥檚 sitting almost at the center of Asia Pacific, GCC, and even for Europe.鈥

鈥淪o we believe the global trade is offering, I think, more opportunities for global supply chains, and also definitely as logistics for cross ordering 鈥 So this is definitely one of our most important strategic countries, a market we will focus (on) and we committed to continue the best.鈥

Xu noted that companies from across East Asia are increasingly drawn to the Kingdom鈥檚 industrial and green technology ambitions.

鈥淲e hope to bring our capabilities here and empower more companies to root here, to grow up here, and also to, really, I think, get more business here,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he green energy and also recycling economy are also key focuses for us.鈥

Cliff Chau, managing partner at ewpartners, emphasized the pace of China鈥檚 progress in healthcare and pharmaceutical development, describing how rapid innovation has reshaped the sector over the past decade.

鈥淚 would say that in the last 10 years, we narrowed the gap between China and US very quickly. Ten years ago, China healthcare, service, standards, equipment, pharmaceutical, (were) probably 20 years behind the US. Today, in some areas, we are ahead of the US.鈥

鈥淪o I understand that healthcare industry is a big thing here too, to extend the longevity of people, to prevent diseases. And I think the healthcare will have a big opportunity in this country too.鈥

He said that China鈥檚 progress was driven by policy support and the return of internationally trained experts.

鈥淭hat鈥檚 one big important factor, is talent infusion and policy driven. And I think the two, second factor, is the kind of the China speed.鈥
