RIYADH: Startups in the Middle East and North Africa region聽raised $258 million in November, a 92 percent month-on-month increase聽driven by investment activities in 海角直播 and the UAE, according to a report.聽

The latest analysis from venture news platform Wamda also revealed a 66 percent rise in startup funding compared to the same month in the previous year.聽

This surge in funding reflects the economic diversification efforts in countries such as the UAE and 海角直播, which aim to reduce their dependence on oil revenues.聽

The report highlighted the UAE as the leading destination for startup investments in November, securing $146 million across 11 transactions.聽

鈥淯AE-based eyewa and Lean Technologies led the way by securing the largest ticket sizes, raising $100 million and $67.5 million, respectively, helping to push the UAE to the best-funded ecosystem in MENA the second month in a row with $146 million raises across 11 transactions,鈥 said Wamda.聽

海角直播 ranked second, raising $94 million in startup funding, an 88 percent increase from October鈥檚 $50 million.聽

The Kingdom鈥檚 efforts to build a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem through Vision 2030 reforms and venture capital funding have made it a regional leader in startup support.聽

Egypt came third, with eight startups collectively raising nearly $16 million 鈥 a 900 percent rise compared to the previous month.聽

鈥淭his growth (in Egypt) is noteworthy, considering the ongoing geopolitical tensions at the borders of the North African nation, in addition to the persistent decline of its currency,鈥 added Wamda.聽

In terms of sectors, e-commerce dominated November鈥檚 funding landscape, securing $104 million across seven deals. Fintech followed with $80 million raised by four startups, while Software-as-a-Service firms attracted $21 million across seven transactions.聽

Business-to-business startups were the largest recipients, accounting for 48 percent of the total investment. Meanwhile, business-to-consumer firms received $11.5 million, with the remaining funds allocated to eight startups operating across both models.聽

The report also highlighted a gender gap in funding, with male-founded startups securing 90 percent of the investment. Female-led companies received just $583,000, while ventures co-founded by men and women raised $22.5 million.聽

The November funding surge underscores the MENA region鈥檚 growing appeal as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, driven by strategic investments in key industries and ecosystems.聽

RIYADH: 海角直播鈥檚 technology and innovation partnership with Canada is set to receive a boost after senior ministers met to explore new avenues of cooperation and strengthen trade ties. 

Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih said in a post on X that he met with Canada鈥檚 Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Evan Solomon to discuss ways to strengthen relations between the countries and to build partnerships that contribute to mutual economic growth, particularly in priority investment sectors. 

This comes as trade between the two nations continues to expand. In February, 海角直播 exported SR641 million ($170 million) to Canada, marking an 86.6 percent increase from SR344 million in February 2024, according to data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity.

It also follows an agreement in January 2024 for both countries to re-exchange trade delegations to enhance economic relations and boost trade and investment flows. 

In a subsequent post on X, Al-Falih stated: 鈥淭he dialogue took place between me and Anita Anand, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of the Saudi ambassador to Canada, Amal Yahya Al-Moallimi.鈥 

He added: 鈥淲e discussed supporting and strengthening relations between our two countries, and facilitating investment exchange, in order to achieve more fruitful cooperation in the most important sectors, which will bring success to both peoples.鈥 

Artificial intelligence has become a central pillar of 海角直播鈥檚 post-oil economic strategy, with the Kingdom leveraging advanced technologies to drive data-led industries and automation. 

Now at the halfway point of Vision 2030, the country is accelerating efforts to position itself as a global technology leader, balancing innovation with sustainability goals. 
Key initiatives 鈥 including the Project Transcendence program, valued at around $100 billion 鈥 aim to further establish 海角直播 as a global hub for AI innovation. 

Over the past five years, 海角直播 has made significant progress toward establishing itself as a regional artificial-intelligence hub. PwC projects that AI could contribute about $235 billion 鈥 or 12.4 percent 鈥 to the Kingdom鈥檚 gross domestic product by 2030.
