  • With the win, 海角直播 left the bottom of the table, climbing to 5th
  • Malaysia and Kuwait have already booked their spot from Asia Group A qualifier

RIYADH: 海角直播 registered their first victory in the ICC Men鈥檚 T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier B as they beat Bhutan in Doha, Qatar, on Friday.

海角直播 were dominant in all fronts as they overcame Bhutan鈥檚 challenge by a huge margin of 85 runs. Bhutan could only muster 85-8 in reply to Saudi鈥檚 170-7 in 20 overs.

Bhutan invited 海角直播 to have a bat first at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium and the openers used it to their advantage. Abdul Waheed and Faisal Khan brought up a 50-run partnership in just 23 balls. Waheed, who hit 18 off 15, holed out to long on from the second ball of the sixth over.

Faisal, who hit Karma Dorji for 24 runs in the fourth over, then went boundary-less for the next nine balls and ultimately fell to Sagar Pradhan. He hit three fours and four sixes in his 20-ball-42.

Skipper Waji Ul Hassan then steadied the ship for 海角直播 as he stitched mini partnerships with Usman Khalid (14) and Manan Ali (12). While Waji kept the scoreboard ticking, his partners were slower than run-a-ball against Bhutan鈥檚 bowlers.

Player of the match Ul Hassan brought on his second T20 half century, hitting Dorji for a six and a four in the 16th over. He then followed one wide but hit straight to mid wicket. He ended scoring 52 runs off 39 balls with three fours and sixes each.

Zain Ul Abidin and Usman Najeeb hit a six each toward the end as Saudi reached the 170 mark.

In reply, Ishtiaq Ahmad rocked the top order of Bhutan with double blow. After giving away a single in his first over, he came back to take the wickets of Tenjin Ragbey and skipper Thinley Jamtsho in consecutive deliveries, both for nought.

Bhutan were soon reduced to 10-3 as Usman Najeeb hit Mikyo Dorji鈥檚 off stump.

Bhutan were 29-4 midway through their innings. But Jigme Singye鈥檚 35 runs helped them to 85 runs in 20 overs. Singye, who hit four fours and sixes each in 41 balls, was run out in the last over. Ishtiaq and Usman took two wickets each, while Shahzaib, Zain Ul Abidin and Abdul Waheed got one each.

Despite 海角直播 losing the first two matches in the tournament, skipper Ul Hassan was hopeful of making it to the next round. 鈥淲e didn鈥檛 achieve the expected result in the first two matches, but this win will help us. The tournament is long and we are hopeful of getting results to aid our target,鈥 he said.

海角直播 have left the bottom of the table with this win as they climb to fifth. UAE, who beat Cambodia by five wickets, have the maximum six points in three matches. Hosts Qatar and Thailand have four points each.

Bahrain are on level with Saudi while Bhutan and Cambodia are yet to open their account.

The top two teams from this qualifier will play the regional final, which serves as pathway for the ICC Men鈥檚 T20 World Cup to be held in 2026.

Malaysia and Kuwait have already booked their spot from the Asia Group A qualifier, while Samoa and Japan are representing the East Asia-Pacific region. Nepal, Oman and Papua New Guinea will also compete in the regional finals.

Sri Lanka survive Hong Kong scare for four wicket Asia Cup win

DUBAI: Sri Lanka were made to sweat before edging Hong Kong by four wickets in the Asia Cup on Monday, as Wanindu Hasaranga鈥檚 late cameo spared the former champions an embarrassing stumble.

Chasing 150 on a sluggish surface, Sri Lanka looked comfortable at 119 for two with 31 needed off 30 deliveries, but a flurry of wickets, four for eight runs, set nerves jangling.

Hasaranga steadied the innings with an unbeaten 20 off nine balls, striking two fours and a six to seal victory with seven balls left.

Pathum Nissanka was again the batting linchpin, cracking 68 off 44 balls with six fours and two sixes. The opener, ranked seventh in the ICC T20 batting standings, posted back-to-back half-centuries to become the tournament鈥檚 leading scorer with 118 runs. Fortune favored him. He was reprieved on 22, 58 and 59, before being run out going for a risky second.

Hong Kong鈥檚 spirited effort was undermined by sloppy fielding as they grassed five catches that might have turned the contest on its head.

鈥淚t was a very good performance but we鈥檙e disappointed we dropped so many catches,鈥 said skipper Yasim Murtaza.

Earlier, after being sent in, Hong Kong charged to 31 for no loss in the first three overs. A 61-run stand from Anshuman Rath (48) and Nizakat Khan (52) anchored their innings, the latter posting his 12th half-century.

Dushmantha Chameera鈥檚 pace proved too hot to handle, finishing with two wickets.

鈥淰ery pleased with my form, but we have a long way to go,鈥 said Nissanka, who continues to flourish at the top of the order.

The win puts Sri Lanka top of Group B, all but ensuring a place in the second round with one match in hand.

  • Waseem, who hit 69, and Sharafu, who made 51, put on 88 runs for the opening wicket to guide hosts UAE to a challenging 172-5 in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI: Skipper Muhammad Waseem and Alishan Sharafu struck attacking half-centuries to lead United Arab Emirates to a thumping 42-run win over Oman in the Asia Cup on Monday.

Waseem, who hit 69, and Sharafu, who made 51, put on 88 runs for the opening wicket to guide hosts UAE to a challenging 172-5 in Abu Dhabi.

The home bowlers then combined to dismiss Oman for 130 in 18.4 overs for their first win in this edition of the regional tournament played in the T20 format.

Medium-pace bowler Junaid Siddique stood out with figures of 4-23. Haider Ali and Muhammad Jawadullah took two wickets each.

The batters had set up victory. Waseem and Sharafu started cautiously but soon took the attack to the opposition with a flurry of boundaries.

Sharafu fell for his 51 but Waseem kept up the charge and reached fifty with a six. The captain was run out in the final over.

UAE play Pakistan, who went down to tournament favorites India in a key match, next on Wednesday with the winner likely to move into the Super Four stage of the eight-nation event.

Oman were never in the chase and lost five wickets for 50 runs with captain and opener Jatinder Singh scoring 20 as they slumped to a second straight defeat.

Defending champions India, who won the previous edition played in a 50-overs format, lead the table in Group A with two wins in two matches are nearly through to the next stage.

Along with regional bragging rights, the competition will serve as a build-up toward the T20 World Cup in February-March in India and Sri Lanka.

  • Game聽ended on a bitter note as Indian players headed into their dressing room without a customary handshake
  • Pakistan, in protest, snubbed the post-match ceremony in their聽first match since the bitter rivals' military clashed 4 months ago

DUBAI: India鈥檚 victorious captain Suryakumar Yadav defended his team鈥檚 decision not to shake hands with the defeated Pakistan players on Sunday, saying that it was taken in alignment with their government and cricket board.
India thumped Pakistan by seven wickets in a Group A Asia Cup clash in Dubai which ended on a bitter note as Indian players headed into their dressing room without a customary handshake.
Pakistan, in protest, refused to attend the post match ceremony as tensions flared in a match which was the first between the bitter rivals since May鈥檚 military action.
The cross border clashes were sparked after an attack in Pahalgam in Indian Kashmir in April which killed 26 people, with India blaming Pakistan.
New Delhi resisted the calls to boycott the match and cleared the team to play Pakistan only in multi-national events.
鈥淲e are aligned with the government and Board of Control for Cricket in India,鈥 said Suryakumar after scoring 47 not out as India chased down a modest Pakistan target of 128 in 15.5 overs.
Left-armer Kuldeep Yadav led India鈥檚 spin rout with 3-18 as Pakistan were restricted to a below-par 127-9 in 20 overs.
Pakistan鈥檚 head coach Mike Hesson termed said he was disappointed with the Indian players鈥 refusal to shake hands.
鈥淲e were ready to shake hands at the end of the game,鈥 said Hesson. 鈥淲e are disappointed that the opposition did not do that.
鈥淲e went over there and they were already gone to the changing room, so that was obviously a disappointing way to finish the match.鈥
Hesson said that the decision not to send captain Salman Agha to the post match ceremony was 鈥渏ust in the flow of the things.鈥
鈥淭he team manager Naveed Cheema lodged a protest with match referee Andy Pycroft after the match,鈥 said Pakistan鈥檚 team management in a statement after the match.
鈥淭he behavior of Indian players was against the spirit of sportsmanship,鈥 it added. 鈥淭hat is why skipper Agha was not sent to the post match ceremony.鈥
India, with two wins from two, are nearly through to the next Super Fours stage of the tournament with their final group match against Oman on Friday.
Pakistan play UAE next on Wednesday and despite the defeat to India are expected to make the next stage.

  • India skipper Suryakumar Yadav hits unbeaten 47 to help his team thrash Pakistan by seven wickets
  • Match was first meeting of the two teams since a military conflict between their countries in May

DUBAI: Spinners led by Kuldeep Yadav helped India thrash Pakistan by seven wickets in the Asia Cup on Sunday as the neighbors met on the cricket pitch for the first time since a military conflict between them in May.
Kuldeep returned figures of 3-18 and along with fellow spinner Axar Patel kept Pakistan down to 127-9 in a key Group A T20 clash in Dubai.
India lost two wickets after a fiery 31 off 13 balls from opener Abhishek Sharma, but skipper Suryakumar Yadav hit an unbeaten 47 to achieve the target with 25 balls to spare.
Suryakumar put on 56 runs with left-hander Tilak Varma, who hit 31 before being bowled by Saim Ayub.
The captain stood firm and hit the winning six as Indian fans celebrated at a stadium, which had alot of empty seats, and the players from both teams went off without handshakes.
Abhishek came out roaring as he hit Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi for a four and a six and, despite the fall of Shubman Gill in the next over, kept up the charge.
Swashbuckling Abhishek cracked four boundaries and two sixes before he mistimed another attempt for a maximum to be caught at long-off off spinner Ayub.
India鈥檚 bowlers set up the dominant win as Axar, who took 2-18, and Kuldeep combined to rattle the opposition batting, which suffered from a lack of partnerships.
Hardik Pandya struck in the first over to dismiss opener Ayub for a golden duck and fellow quick Jasprit Bumrah sent back wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Haris for three.
Sahibzada Farhan, who top-scored with 40, attempted to rebuild the innings along with Fakhar Zaman, who made 17, in a partnership of 39.
Axar broke the stand with his left-arm spin as he got Zaman caught out and in his next over had skipper Salman Agha out for three.
Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep came into the attack and struck twice on successive balls to pack off Hasan Nawaz (5) and Mohammad Nawaz (0) as Pakistan slipped to 64-6 inside 13 overs.
Wickets kept tumbling, but number nine Afridi took on the opposition attack with four sixes in his unbeaten 33 off 16 balls to push the total past 120 and play out Pakistan鈥檚 full 20 overs.
India, with two wins from two, are nearly through to the next Super Fours stage of the tournament with their final group match against Oman on Friday.
Pakistan play hosts United Arab Emirates next and despite the defeat are expected to make the next stage.
India resisted calls to boycott the T20 clash between the nations, who have not played in any bilateral series since deadly attacks in Mumbai in 2008 were blamed on Pakistan militants.
The hostilities in May this year left more than 70 people dead in missile, drone and artillery exchanges, before a ceasefire.

Emotions run high as India and Pakistan face off after May clashes
  • Even before the clashes in May between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, bilateral cricket ties had been suspended
  • India, the reigning 20-overs world champions, are firm favorites to retain their Asia Cup title

DUBAI: An India-Pakistan cricket match is always a blockbuster but emotions will run even higher in Sunday鈥檚 Asia Cup clash between the nuclear-armed neighbors, who engaged in a four-day military conflict earlier this year.
Even before the clashes in May, which nearly escalated into a full-blown war, bilateral cricket ties had been suspended. The arch-rivals now play each other only in multi-team tournaments.
Political relations have deteriorated further since the clashes, with several former Indian players urging the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to boycott what will be the first meeting between the teams since the recent hostilities.
While the threat of a boycott is over, sparks may fly with India captain Suryakumar Yadav and his Pakistan counterpart Salman Agha ruling out dialing down aggression in the much-anticipated Group A fixture.
India, the reigning 20-overs world champions, are firm favorites to retain their Asia Cup title and are determined not to let geopolitics derail their campaign.
鈥淥nce the BCCI said they are aligned with the government, we are here to play,鈥 India鈥檚 batting coach Sitanshu Kotak told reporters on Friday.
鈥淥nce we are here to play, I think players are focused on playing cricket. I personally don鈥檛 think they have anything in mind apart from playing cricket and that鈥檚 what we focus on.鈥
Pakistan coach Mike Hesson also wants his team to stay focused though the significance of the match is not lost on him.
鈥淏eing part of a highly-charged event is going to be exciting,鈥 the New Zealander said this week.
鈥淔rom my perspective ... it is about keeping everybody focused on the job at hand. That will be no different.
鈥淲e know India are obviously hugely confident and rightfully so. But we are very much focused on improving as a team day-by-day and not getting ahead of ourselves.鈥
India appear by far the strongest side in the eight-team tournament, having reinforced themselves with the selection of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and top order batter Shubman Gill.
They were ruthless in their nine-wicket demolition of the United Arab Emirates, whom they routed for 57 in 13.1 overs before returning to chase down the target in 27 balls on Thursday.
Pakistan also opened their account with an easy victory against Oman but their batting has been rather inconsistent.
Pakistan are without former skippers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan but will take heart from winning a T20 tri-series in UAE, also involving Afghanistan, before heading into the Asia Cup.
鈥淲e have been playing good cricket in the last two-three months and we just have to play good cricket,鈥 Pakistan captain Salman said on Friday.
鈥淚f we can execute our plans for a long enough period, we are good enough to beat any team.鈥
