- The former Malaysian PM criticizes Western nations for supporting ‘massacres and genocide’ of occupied people
- He says all occupying and ‘ruthless regimes proclaim to be advocates of democracy while they commit apartheid’
ISLAMABAD: Malaysia’s former prime minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad drew parallels between the conflicts in Kashmir and Palestine in a video message released on Friday, saying Indian authorities were using Israel’s playbook while dealing with the residents of the disputed Himalayan territory.
According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) news agency, his statement was played at an event organized by the Pakistan High Commission in Malaysia to mark October 27 as Black Day to observe the 76th anniversary of India’s takeover of a significant portion of Kashmir.
India and Pakistan both claim Kashmir in full but only control parts of it. The two countries have also fought wars over the disputed territory which continues to witness countless border skirmishes between them.
The Malaysian politician said all “ruthless regimes proclaim to be advocates of democracy while they commit apartheid.”
“They express anger and disgust when their victims retaliate and hit back at them, usually on minute scale, disproportionately compared with their vicious attacks,” he continued. “They label freedom fighters as terrorists, hiding the fact that their apartheid policies, genocide and ethnic cleansing activities for decades cannot but spawn aggressive retaliation from those occupied.”
He strongly criticized the Western nations, saying the support of former colonial powers to the new occupiers was leading to massacres and genocide of the occupied.
The former Malaysian politician particularly mentioned the situation in Gaza, saying much of the world was watching with horror as Israel was unleashing its military might against Palestinians.
“Israel intends to choke Palestinians in Gaza out of existence by cutting off all basic and essential supplies,” he continued.
He also pointed out that while Israel was blaming Hamas for the current situation of the Gaza Strip, it had completely failed to explain why “the murderous Tel Aviv regime” had been attacking the West Bank which was devoid of Hamas activists.
“Using the same playbook, India is justifying its invasion and occupation of Jammu and Kashmir as part of an effort to eradicate militants and terrorists and to protect its borders,” he added.
The Malaysian politician noted that India “is forcefully bullying any opposition to its occupation while at the same time tightening its grip on these territories.”
He maintained it was important expose the “hypocrisy and cruelties” of the two regimes while saying to the people of Kashmir: “We remember you and we feel for you. We pray for your deliverance and may Allah liberate you from the tyranny.”
