RIYADH: Driven by the聽increased use聽of聽advanced technologies, most large companies聽in聽Saudi聽Arabia聽expect聽low聽levels聽of聽security聽threats聽in聽2024, a聽threat assessment聽investigation has revealed. 聽
According to the World聽Security聽Report聽released by London-based global聽security聽firm G4S, the Kingdom is consolidating its position as one聽of聽the best countries聽in聽the region to do business, thanks to its widespread adoption聽of聽advanced technology. 聽
鈥淭he government鈥檚 measures to stamp down on cybercrime, along with its substantial聽investments聽in聽advanced technologies and digital upskilling聽in聽the context聽of聽Saudi聽Vision 2030, make the country an attractive hub for聽businesses,鈥 said Mahmoud Mudhaffar, managing director聽of聽G4S聽in聽Saudi聽Arabia,聽 in聽a statement. 聽
The study found that the Kingdom had the聽lowest聽intrusion and competitor sabotage rates at聽11 percent聽and聽13 percent, respectively. 聽
Last year,聽Saudi聽Arabia experienced聽lower聽levels聽of聽external聽threats聽related to vandalism, trespass and distributed denial聽of聽service attacks compared with the global average, the聽report聽added.聽
A DDoS attack is a cybercrime that聽involves multiple machines working together to overwhelm a target with聽internet traffic.聽
The聽report聽surveyed 1,775 chief聽security聽officers聽of聽large organizations across 30 countries,聽including 235 CSOs聽in聽the Middle East from the UAE,聽Saudi聽Arabia, Egypt and Jordan.聽
The research revealed that companies聽in聽the Middle East聽faced the least聽security聽threats聽involving violent criminals at聽19 percent.聽聽
CSOs who participated聽in聽the survey opined that聽Saudi聽Arabia plans to聽increase its use聽of聽technologies like artificial聽intelligence, facial recognition and machine learning. 聽
鈥淚n聽particular, it appears to be embracing the use聽of聽AI.聽Saudi聽Arabia is the second highest country聽in聽the region behind Jordan to say it will adopt AI-powered surveillance and monitoring systems at聽46 percent,鈥 said G4S聽in聽the聽report. 聽
The Kingdom is also the second-highest country聽in聽the region to聽expect聽to use biometrics and facial recognition technology behind the UAE at聽49 percent聽over the next five years. 聽
Similarly, at聽44 percent, more companies聽in聽the Kingdom plan to use聽internet-connected technologies and connected devices compared to any other country聽in聽the region.聽
