RIYADH:聽The private sector is considered a key driver in boosting 海角直播鈥檚聽gross domestic product聽and helping聽it become a productive economy,聽said聽Saudi聽Finance Minister Mohammed聽Aljadaan聽during the聽2023 Budget Forum聽organized聽to review聽the performance of the government for the year 2022.聽

The two-day event that began on Dec. 11 was attended by聽as many as 30 officials from the government and private speakers聽to聽discuss聽the impact of government services on citizens and the private sector聽besides聽addressing聽the plans and future projects of the entities present.聽

Saudi Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal聽Alibrahim聽agreed that聽the private sector has a vital role to play聽in the long run, considering that it鈥檚 a chief propeller of the Kingdom鈥檚 economic development.聽聽

While 60 percent of the Kingdom鈥檚 population is under the age of 30,聽he pointed out that聽41 percent are under the age of 25, which is an opportunity to create productive elements.聽

鈥淭he public finances are somewhat independent, but as oil prices fluctuate, we try to keep them stable by controlling spending,鈥澛爐he聽minister聽added.聽

Furthermore,聽he聽revealed that聽海角直播 has managed to control inflation by capping energy prices聽as聽they聽spent聽tens of billions聽of dollars to聽compensate聽Saudi Aramco for selling fuel locally at lower聽than the聽international price.聽

鈥淲e moved from the Fiscal Balance Program to the Fiscal Sustainability Program,鈥澛燗ljadaan聽emphasized.聽

Meanwhile, he revealed that the government's non-oil revenues covered 40 percent of聽its聽spending by the end of 2021, after covering only 10 percent previously.聽

ACWA Power Chairman Mohammad聽Abunayyan聽who also participated in the forum revealed that the Kingdom has the cheapest renewable energies in the world.聽

He stressed that the promotion of local content requires the empowerment of the private sector, and 鈥渢his is what I recommend and am passionate about.鈥澛犅

"The government's role is to legislate, but we are the ones who will implement and invest,鈥 the聽ACWA Power chairman added.聽聽

Expressing his views on the general budget, the Saudi National Bank Chairman Ammar聽Alkhudairy聽said there are several things that reflect positively on the citizens and economic system in the Kingdom including the fact that jobs have been created as well as small and medium enterprises growing by 10 percent.聽

He said that tourism, food, and beverages,聽privatization, and SMEs are the next group of sectors that will require some sort of collaboration between the private and public sectors.聽聽

Alkhudairy聽stressed that SME Bank will have a crucial role to play in the process.聽

Talking about the Kingdom's housing sector, the country鈥檚聽Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing聽Majed Al-Hogail聽revealed that聽it聽has served聽1.4 million聽families,聽with聽home ownership rates going as planned.聽He added that聽next year they will increase to 1 percent.聽

With regard to families most in need of housing,聽the minister聽said they聽were able to pump more than 30,000 housing units, and聽鈥渨e will continue with this approach until we reach 70,000 housing units this year and next.鈥澛

The first day of the forum comprised six sessions covering themes on financial sustainability and drivers of economic growth, sustainable energy,聽basic services in light of the national transformation,聽and聽the role of infrastructure and logistics services in supporting聽economic development. It also touched upon issues relating to聽the impact of enabling investment on economic growth,聽and聽strengthening the聽technology聽sector to enable the digital economy.聽

The second day of the forum聽will witness the holding of five dialogue sessions聽revolving around聽the national industry and its role in facing risks,聽business facilitation and its role in the economy,聽the impact of tourism and culture on economic development,聽and the impact of the budget on empowering women.聽

This comes as聽海角直播鈥檚 bumper budget surplus received thumbs up from the Kingdom鈥檚 governors as they term it a reflection of 鈥渢he strength and durability鈥 of the economy that will go long way to improve the lives of its citizens. 聽聽

海角直播 on Wednesday announced a larger-than-expected budget surplus of SR102 billion ($27.13 billion) for 2022 鈥 SR12 billion higher than previously forecast.聽

The Kingdom also upwardly revised the growth of its gross domestic product to 8.5 percent for 2022, compared with the 7.5 percent estimated in December 2021 and the 8 percent forecast in the pre-Budget statement published at the end of September.聽
