RIYADH: A national afforestation campaign was launched on Saturday in the Kingdom, as the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture鈥檚 tree-planting campaign began in Riyadh鈥檚 Thadiq National Recreation Park, where 50,000 trees were planted.
The campaign constitutes the first step of a national afforestation plan set to run until April 2020.
The Kingdom鈥檚 Vision 2030 program has attached utmost importance to environmental protection and natural resources due to their pivotal role in achieving sustainable development and society鈥檚 prosperity.
The ministry provided a special registration form on its website for those wishing to join the campaign.
The minister of environment, water and agriculture, Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, said: 鈥淭his great effort complements the ministry鈥檚 objectives in preserving the environment and combating desertification, as it aims to plant more than 6 million trees during this season in all regions of the Kingdom.
鈥淭his national campaign is our way to combat desertification and restore our vegetation.鈥
The minister expressed his sincere thanks to all those who contributed, calling on everyone to participate in afforestation campaigns in all regions of the Kingdom.聽
