The Jeddah health sector currently has some 500 job opportunities, said Sami Badawood, director general of Jeddah Health Affairs, at the inauguration of the second International Medical Health Exhibition and Forum 2013.
“We are trying to achieve Saudization (naturalization) in nursing and we are in need of Saudi experts in operating rooms and the ICU. Through training, we hope to cover the entire sector,” he said.
Cornelia Prüfer-Storcks, German health minister, was also present at the inauguration at the Jeddah Center for Forums and Events on Saturday.
The three-day international exhibition and forum addresses the prevalence of lifestyle diseases in the Kingdom, such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
Some 139 exhibitors from 19 countries are participating in the exhibition.
“MEDEXPO ֱ is a great platform to showcase the advances and achievements of the Kingdom’s health care industry,” said Badawood.
Adnan Mandorah, secretary general of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), said the exhibition would help the Kingdom become a health care hub in the region.
Elie Rizk, CEO of MICE Arabia Exhibitions and Conferences, also said that ֱ’s economic boom has resulted in the existence of more than 400 hospitals, 2,037 primary health care centers, 80,000 physicians and 130,000 nurses in the health care sector. These numbers prove that the government is making significant efforts toward allocating budgets to improve the health care sector, which in itself is an essential incentive for international companies to exhibit at the show.
James Meltz, an exhibition director from DMG Events, said that a “Saudization” job center has been developed to provide an opportunity for Saudi youth to seek jobs in the health sector with the participation of 17 different companies from health sectors in the center.
“Students who are interested can drop off their CVs and apply for jobs related to their field of interest,” he explained.
Exhibitors include Leader Health Care, Gulf Medical, the Saudi German Hospital Group, Somatco, Asian Med AKYME, Batterjee and Brothers, Bruns and Co., the Central Board for Accreditation of Health Institutions (CBAHI), the Council of Cooperative Health Insurance (CCHI), the German Health Care Export Group, the Illinois Office of Trade and Investment, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (SAGLIKSA) and New Medical Technologies, Inc.
